LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell football team fell into an early hole and could not climb out on Saturday, dropping a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to Missouri S&T, 49-28. The Cardinals move to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Missouri S&T scored on their opening drive and jumped out to a 28-0 lead over the first two quarters. 
• In the third quarter, Jake Shaffer scored on back-to-back drives on seven-yard and 24-yard runs to bring the score to 42-14 entering the fourth quarter. 
• In the final period, Shaffer found Nate Barnett for an 11 yard touchdown catch followed by a four-yard scoring rush from Keaundre McCullough to double the Cardinals total but the initial deficit was too much to overcome. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Tucker Griffin was 6-for-11 for 86 yards while Shaffer finished 6-for-14 for 86 yards and three scores, one passing and two rushing. 
• McCullough finished with 161 net rushing yards on 26 carries with Barnett hauling in three passes for 58 yards. 
• Adam Callahan posted his third consecutive double digit tackle performance with 14 with Eric Ohmer grabbing his first interception of the season.

Jewell begins their final road swing of the season next weekend as they travel to Southwest Baptist followed by a trip to Quincy University on November 2.
