Cardinals Fall at Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team suffered an offensive drought late as Rockhurst downed the Cardinals 70-64 on Thursday night. Jewell drops to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The contest was back-and-forth from the get-go as neither team led by more than five over the first 10 minutes of action. The Hawks went on a 9-3 run over a three minute span to go in front by eight late in the first half but Jewell responded with a 9-0 of their own led by five points from Jordan Jermain to regain the lead, 34-33. 
  • The Cardinals maintained a small edge for much of the second half until Rockhurst used a quick 11-2 retake the lead with under three minutes to play. The Hawks were 2-for-3 from the free throw line over the final seconds to get the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jermain finished with 19 points to pace Jewell while Jason Thirdkill, Jr. grabbed 14 points and a team high nine boards. 
  • Kanukayi Gudza added a career high 15 points as the Cardinals shot 43% from the floor but just 22% from long range. 
  • Jewell grabbed 10 offensive rebounds which led to 15 second chance points. 
  • The game featured 13 ties and 11 lead changes.
