Cardinals Lead Wire to Wire for Big Win Over Drury

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team jumped out to an early double digit lead and never looked back on their way to an 80-57 win over Drury University on Saturday at home. The Cardinals improve to 15-8 overall and 9-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell broke out to an fast 13-0 lead and held the Panthers scoreless for more than six minutes to start the game. Drury got on the board and used a 12-5 run to pull back within six midway through the first half before Eli Wingert took over, scoring twice and handing out two additional assists to push the lead back to 12. Joe Zhang drove the lane to score his first career points late in the first half as the Cardinals took a 40-29 lead into the locker room. 
  • After the Panthers cut the deficit to eight to open the second half, Jewell went on a 8-1 run, capped by a three from Isaac Patterson to push the lead to 15. With Jewell leading by 18 with under 11 to play, Drury went on a 15-6 run to get back within single digits. A three from Jordan Jermain ended the run and led the Cards to a 16-4 run over the final seven-plus minutes to give Jewell their largest lead of the day with the final of 80-57. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jermain paced the Cardinals with 25 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists. 
  • Patterson grabbed his first double-double with 17 points and 11 boards while Kobe McKinley added 13 points and two blocks. 
  • Jewell shot 43% from the floor and 23-of-27 from the free throw line while holding the Panthers just 33% overall and 18% from long range. 



UP NEXT
The Cardinals will remain at home next week as they host crosstown rival Rockhurst on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the Kansas City Crown series.
