LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team broke out to an early 20-point lead and never looked back, rolling to an 82-50 win over rival Rockhurst University on Saturday The Cardinals improve to 16-8 overall, 10-6 in conference play and pick up another point for the Cardinals in the Kansas City Crown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals set the tone early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead and eventually pushing it 20 midway through the first half after back-to-back threes from Isaac Patterson and Jordan Jermain.
- A Luke Jordan steal led to a layup at the other end for Trey Shannon to push the advantage to 35-14 with just over five minutes to go in the opening half. The Hawks outscored Jewell 8-2 over the final minutes to pull within 15 but another triple from Patterson made it 40-22 in favor of the Cardinals at the break.
- After a three from Rockhurst pulled the Hawks within 16 early in the second half, Jewell outscored their rival, 32-18 to expand their lead to a game-high 37 with under five to play.
- The Cardinal bench got in over the final minutes as Kyle Scharbrough hit a three to place the final dagger as Jewell rolled to the finish.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jermain led the Cardinals with 25 points on 8-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from long range. In his 100th career game, the senior moved into the top-20 on the all-time scoring list.
- Patterson posted his second double-double in as many games, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists.
- Shannon added 15 points while McKinley had 12 to put players in double figures.
- Redshirt sophomore Eli Wingert came off the bench to grab a career high five steals.
- Jewell shot 54% from the floor and 52% from the three point line.
