Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The William Jewell softball team split the second half to the Alvy Early Class on Saturday, defeating East Central (Okla.) 3-0 before falling to Emporia state, 9-5.
GAME ONE: Jewell 3, East Central 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell put all the runs they needed on the board in the third inning was Kenzie Stahl walked and stole second before scoring on a single from Sabrina Olmo. Amanda Chung grabbed a base hit to put two on for Sophia Lopez who brought them both home with a double.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers threatened as they loaded the bases but a ground ball ended the rally and gave the Cardinals their first win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was led by Lopez's two RBI while Olmo, Chung, and Stahl also recorded hits.
- Avrey Reynolds (1-1) picked up her first career win in the circle with a complete game shutout.
GAME TWO: Emporia State 9, Jewell 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emporia State scored first in the top of the second with two runs but the Cardinals got one back in the bottom half as Mya Zavala singled and came around to score on an RBI base hit from Stahl.
- The Hornets broke things open in the third with five runs on four hits to take a 7-1 lead.
- Jewell rallied in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four on three hits. With two on, Tori Woodard poked a pinch hit single to left to score Stahl followed by an RBI base hit from Lopez. Abby Harder then came off the bench to send a two-RBI double to center scoring Lopez and Chung and bring the Cardinals with two, 7-5.
- ESU extended their lead to four, scoring two runs on hits and a Cardinal error in the seventh and were able to get three outs in the bottom half to take the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Olmo and Zavala led the offense with two hits apiece while Harder had two RBI.
- Sammie Welt (0-1) took the loss in the circle, working 2.1 innings.

Jewell is back in action on Tuesday as the travel to Lincoln University of Missouri for a non-conference doubleheader.
