Box Score 2 JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln University of Missouri on Tuesday afternoon on the road, winning 8-4 and 4-1. The Cardinals improve to 3-3 on the season.
GAME ONE: Jewell 8, Lincoln 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abby Vandiver got things started immediately, taking the fourth pitch of the game to right center for a triple before scoring on a single by Sabrina Olmo.
- The Blue Tigers tied things up in the bottom of the second on a RBI single to right.
- In the fifth frame, Kenzie Stahl led off with a bunt single and advanced to third on a passed ball. A double steal scored Stahl and moved up Olmo who then scored on a Sophia Lopez double. Tori Woodard then came off the bench to rope a pinch hit RBI double to make it 4-1, Cardinals.
- Lincoln got one back in the bottom half of the inning but the Cards added two more in the sixth on back-to-back errors before Addie Bell launched her first home run of the season in the top of the seventh to make it a six-run lead.
- The home team scored two runs on one hit in the final frame but could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell out hit the Blue Tigers 8-7, led by two from Lopez who also scored twice.
- Bell finished with a team high two RBI.
- Avrey Reynolds (2-1) picked up the complete game win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
GAME TWO: Jewell 4, Lincoln 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the nightcap, the Cardinals again got on the board first as Vandiver walked and scored on a fielder's choice in the opening inning.
- In the fourth, Lopez sent a home run to left field to push the lead to 2-0.
- Ella Hoffman reached base on an error by the center fielder in the top half of the sixth inning that scored Olmo and Amanda Chung to make it 4-0. The Blue Tigers got on back with an infield single but Sydney Parra came on in the seventh to shut the door.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals were limited to just four hits in game two, with Olmo racking up three of them while Vandiver walked twice.
- Olivia Wood (1-0) earned the win in the circle with six strong innings, allowing just a single earned run while striking out five.
- Parra (1) grabbed her first save of the year with a scoreless seventh.
