Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cardinals Fall 70-68 to GLVC Leader Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a 70-68 decision on Thursday night at UIndy. The Cardinals move to 16-9 and 10-7 in conference play while the Greyhounds improve to 18-7 overall and 14-3 in the GLVC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell got off to a hot start, taking a 9-2 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Greyhound offense got rolling and pulled within one after a three from Sean Craig.
  • Kobe McKinley led the Jewell offense on the other end bettering Craig's three with two of his own to put the Cards back in front by seven. Leading by three in the final minute of the first half, Jordan Jermain hit three free throws to make it a 39-33 game, in favor of Jewell, at the break.
  • UIndy came out of the break and quickly tied the game at 41 after a triple but a McKinley free throw put the Cardinals on top again by one. Over the next eight minutes, the teams traded two ties and eight lead changes until a layup from Justice Sutton knotted things up once again at 57 with just over eight minutes to play.
  • Trailing by two with eight seconds left the Cardinals were fouled but converted just one of two free throws and were forced to foul over the final seconds. UIndy was equally as successful, hitting just one-of-two final charity attempts giving Jewell one final look but the three pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McKinley led the Cardinals with 21 points, including 18 in the first half.
  • Isaac Patterson picked up his third straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jermain added 14 and seven, respectively.
  • Trey Shannon also chipped in 13 points.
  • Jewell shot 47% from the floor and 50% from long range but were just 10-of-18 from the free throw line.
