ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell men's basketball team fell behind by double digits in the first half at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon and could not recover, dropping an 84-70 decision. The Cardinals move to 16-10 on the season, 10-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Lewis hit their first four shots of the game to jump out to a quick 9-0 lead. The Cardinals got on the board with a traditional three point play from Trey Shannon that started a 12-6 run to get back in the game.
• Leading 17-14, the Flyers went on a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to open up a 33-18 advantage. Jewell scored 15 points to close the half but trailed by 14 at the break. 
• The Flyers opened the second half by pushing their lead to 20 with under 12 minutes to play. Back-to-back three pointers from Kobe McKinley and Isaac Patterson cut the deficit back to 14 but Lewis continued to maintain their double digit lead. 
• The Cardinals made things more interesting down the stretch as they made a run capped by a layup from Jordan Jermain to cut things to just 11 with under four to go but Jewell could get no closer. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• McKinley led the team with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds while Jermain added 17 and nine, respectively. 
• Jewell suffered from cold shooting, hitting 39% from the floor, including just 17% from long range while the Flyers were a blistering 55% from the field.

The Cardinals return home next week to close the regular season beginning with a rematch with Maryville on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
