LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team bounced back on Saturday collecting both wins of a doubleheader against Northern State University to move to 2-1 on the year. Game one resulted in a 13-6 victory, while the nightcap left Jewell with a 7-2 win.
Junior
Will Brant had a career day between the two games. His two home runs today match his season mark from last year, while his seven combined RBI's are a single-day career high for the Prairie Village, Kansas native. In addition to batting 4-6, Brant scored four runs in the afternoon.
Game 1 (Jewell 13, Northern State 6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After allowing a lone run to the Wolves in the top of the first, Will McCombs hit an RBI single scoring Dawson Tweet in the bottom of the second. One batter later Jake Wilcox hit his first home run of the year to deep center field to give the Cardinals the 3-2 lead.
- Northern State regained the lead in the top of the third, Brant hit a solo shot left center to knot things up at 4 runs.
- The following inning, Jewell exploded for four runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double from Brant.
- Jordan Phillips began the fifth with a home run to deep right field, the first of five Cardinal runs to secure the 13-6 game one victory.

Game 2 (Jewell 7, Northern State 2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tweet blasted a solo home run in the second inning to put Jewell on the board early, 1-0.
- The next inning, an RBI double down the left field line from Evan Jilbert scored Alex Epp from second, followed up by a two-run home run from Brant – his second of the day.
- Jewell added three insurance runs in the sixth to secure the five-run victory.
KEY STATS
- Tweet and Brant each went 2-3, with a home run and two runs scored.
- Jacob Sullivan struck out nine, including all three batters he faced in the fifth, in 5.1 innings worth of work earning his first win of the season.
