Box Score LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball lost the final game of their season opening series against the Northern State, 25-16. Offense was in full effect at Tally Stadium Sunday afternoon, the two teams combined for 41 hits with each team having the same amount as their run total. The game four loss moves their season record to 2-2 while splitting the overall series with the Wolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell trailed 5-0 going into the fourth inning, when a pair of Northern State errors allowed for two Cardinal runs.
- An eight-run fifth inning for the Wolves made it, 13-2 before in the home half a double from Evan Jilbert drove in Alex Epp from second base.
- The Jewell bats came alive in the sixth and seventh innings scoring four runs in each, highlighted by Jordan Phillips. The first baseman slammed a three-run home run in the sixth followed by a two-run shot the following inning to cut the lead to 16-11.
- In the eight, Jewell responded to Northern State's five runs by adding five of their own, including a two-run home run from Jonah Sanford, but it would not be enough as the Cardinals were unable to add any runs in the ninth inning.
