LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball run ruled Bemidji State University in the first game of their four-game series with the Beavers. The 17-2 final puts the Cardinals at 3-2 on the early season.
Jewell scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth, including exploding for seven runs in the sixth inning.
Chandler Ashby in his second start of the year struck out six, while having consistent run support throughout the game to move to 1-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After allowing a first inning run, the Cardinals battled back plating two runs to take the one-run lead.
- After scoring a lone run in the second, Jewell bats piled tacked on three runs in the third, including a two-run bases clearing triple from Will McCombs to go up 6-1.
- With two men on in the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Phillips homered for the fourth time this season. Later in the inning, catcher Ben Click double plated another run to go up by nine.
- Jewell batted around in the sixth, where RBI singles from Alex Epp, Will Brant, and McCombs contributed to the seven-run inning to run rule the Beavers 17-2.
KEY STATS
- With his home run, Phillips leads the team with four home runs this season and moves his home run streak to three games.
- Ashby recorded his first win on the season, going six innings while striking out six.
- McCombs drove in four runs, while Brant drove in three and scored a run himself.
