LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team dropped the series finale against GLVC opponent Quincy by a score of 16-10. The loss puts the Cardinals to 6-6 on the season and 1-3 within conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning after batting through the order, with the first five Cardinals in the lineup coming around to score.
- The Hawks immediately answered with five runs of their own in the second to tie the game.
- In the third, Nick Chanez and Ben Click each singled and would score courtesy of a Cale Blasi RBI single and sac fly off the bat of Jake Wilcox to pull ahead by two.
- Two home runs in the fourth would put Quincy up 9-7.
- Quincy would plate seven runs over the next five innings, while a lead-off home run in the ninth from Wilcox would not be enough to mount the comeback.
KEY STATS
- Cardinal pitching staff struck out five, compared to 11 strikeouts from Quincy.
- Wilcox's homer was his third on the year, tied for second most on the team.
