LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team split their doubleheader against the No. 24 University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars, a 14-4 win in the first game, followed by a 11-6 loss in game two. At the conclusion of the day, the Cardinals sit at 10-7 on the season, 3-4 in the GLVC.
Game 1 (Jewell 14, Illinois Springfield 4)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down one, the Cardinal offense batted around in the first inning with the first six batters all coming around to score, highlighted by RBI singles from Cole Conner, Jordan Phillips, and Dawson Tweet.
- The scoring would continue in the second with runs from Phillips and Tweet due to catcher Will Brant's two-RBI knock.
- Jewell wasn't done, with the bases loaded and two out in the third inning the designated hitter Evan Jilbert clobbered his fourth homer of the year. The grand slam put Jewell up 12-1.
- Cardinals would add runs in the fourth and sixth to earn the 14-4 final.

- It wasn't until the fourth before Jewell got their first hit, a single up the middle from Dawson Tweet. He would later score one of the two Cardinal runs that inning.
- Down 8-2 in the sixth, first baseman Cole Conner hit a solo shot to left field. Timely hitting would plate four runs, but it would not be enough as the Prairie Stars would tack on three runs in the top of the seventh to win 11-6.
KEY STATS
- Conner's home run in the sixth was his first on the season.
- In his first career start, Charlie Rambo would receive the loss, giving up five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out three in 4.0 IP.
