LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team saw history made in multiple ways on Saturday afternoon as they rolled to a 95-71 win over Missouri S&T. The Cardinals finish the regular season at 18-10 overall and 12-8 in conference play, tying their most wins over NCAA-II opponents in a season since making the jump in 2011-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing by nine early, the Cardinals got back in things behind Jordan Jermain who scored 12 of the next 16 Jewell points to tie things up at 22 on three free throws with nine minutes to go in the opening half.
- Four points from Trey Shannon sparked another Cardinal run as they outscored the Miners 24-11 over the last seven-plus minutes of the half to take a 48-35 lead at the intermission.
- Jewell picked up where they left off the in the first half, holding Missouri S&T to just two points over the first four minutes of the second period while growing their lead to 21 after consecutive buckets from Isaac Patterson.
- The Cardinal bench got in on the action as Luke Jordan, Kanukayi Gudza, Kyle Scharbrough, and Nick Burri got in the scoring column in the latter part the game to cap off the 24-point win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Patterson put his name in the history books with a 16 point, 15 rebound and 10 assist performance to become just the 15th Division II player this season to post a triple double and the first in program history to do so with at least 15 rebounds.
- Kobe McKinley scored a game high 25 points while grabbing eight boards as the Cardinals won the battle on the glass 43-33.
- Jermain added 19 points to become the 19th player in program history to surpass the 1500 point mark.
- The Cardinals shot a blistering 58% from the floor compared to 36% by Missouri S&T.
