LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell concluded their series with the Missouri S&T Miners on Sunday afternoon, a 14-4 loss that went eight innings. The loss puts Jewell at 12-10 on the season and a 5-7 conference record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the bases loaded in the first inning Jordan Phillips grounded into a double play, but leadoff hitter Jake Wilcox came in from third to give Jewell the early 1-0 lead.
- After allowing a pair of Miner runs, Jewell responded in the second when Cale Blasi notched an RBI base hit to center, scoring Nick Chanez to pull within a run.
- The following inning down 6-3, second baseman Jonah Sanford singled to right center with the bases loaded scoring a run to cut the S&T lead to two.
- Missouri S&T would go on to score eight runs over the next four innings to end the game in a run rule, 14-4.
KEY STATS
- Sanford had his second three hit game of the season, going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in a run.
- Jacob Sullivan got the game four start receiving his first loss of the season after only going 1.2 innings giving up six earned runs.
- 12 issued walks and seven wild pitches are both the most by the Cardinal pitching staff this season.
