LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team split their Friday doubleheader against Southwest Baptist in opposite fashion, a 28-2 win in game one that set the single game NCAA record in runs scored and then a 2-0 loss where the Cardinals were no-hit through six innings. Jewell would leave the day 14-11 on the season and 7-8 in the conference.
Game 1 (Jewell 28, SBU 2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After giving up a leadoff homerun, Jewell answered with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. Evan Jilbert picked up where he left off yesterday with an RBI double to right center, followed by an RBI single from Ben Click to make it 3-1.
- Two more runs in the first would make it 5-1 Jewell. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Jake Wilcox blasted a grand slam over the left field wall to give Jewell the 9-1 lead headed into the second.
- Cardinals piled six more runs next inning, highlighted by a two-run shot from shortstop Alex Epp to lead 15-2 after two.
- After only a one run inning in the third, Jewell opened the floodgates come the fourth inning scoring 10 runs. After an RBI double that scored two from Jordan Phillips, Camden Dayton scored on a wild pitch.
- Ben Click and Sanford each had hits down the leftfield line to plate runs, while another wild pitch later in the inning would score Dawson Tweet. Phillips' second hit of the inning scored Wilcox to make the final after four 26-2.
- Epp's second home run of the game would score the last two runs of the game to make it a record-setting 28-2 final.
KEY STATS
- Breven Yarbro tied the NCAA record for single game strikeouts with 12, going five innings and only walking a pair. Yarbro moves to 4-1 on the season.
- Wilcox's grand slam marks his fourth homer of the year, and the second slam in back-to-back days for the Cardinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After collecting 15 runs through two innings in Game One, the first base runner for the Cardinals game in the second inning when Jordan Phillips was walked to lead-off the frame. Later that innings Dawson Tweet reached on a fielders choice but was later caught stealing.
- Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Bearcats hit a two run homer to break the scoring draught.
- Still without a hit through six innings, Evan Jilbert collected the first hit of the game for the Cardinals to lead-off the bottom of the seventh with a base knock just in front of the diving Bearcat shortstop, but would be the only base runner the Cardinals could muster dropping game two 2-0.
KEY STATS
- Though being no-hit through six innings, Jewell batters only struck-out once.
- Charlie Rambo received the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season after striking out six, walking four, and giving up five hits including the go-ahead home run.
