LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team dropped their first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) game of the season, a windy Friday afternoon matchup against the Quincy University Hawks. The loss moves the Cardinals to 5-4 on the season and 0-1 within conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bottom of the first, reigning GLVC Player of the Week Jordan Phillips sent a double down the left field line that scored Jake Wilcox to put Jewell up early, 1-0.
- Quincy bats came alive in the third, plating six runs on five hits pushing the score to 6-1.
- A sac fly in the fifth off the bat of Evan Jiilbert score Wilcox, cutting the Hawks lead to four.
- Will Brant would plate a lone run in the bottom of the eighth but would not be enough come the ninth as the final would be 6-3.
KEY STATS
- Starting pitcher Chandler Ashby moves to 0-2 on the season after allowing six runs on six hits while striking out four in his 4.0 IP.
- Wilcox, Phillips, and Brant led the charge with a pair of hits each, with Wilcox plating two of the three Cardinal runs.
- Though Quincy outscored Jewell by three runs, the Cardinals had just one less hit than the Hawks with eight.
