MARYVILLE, Mo. –
Will Brant stole the show Wednesday afternoon in William Jewell's 18-8 victory over Northwest Missouri State. Brant, back in the lineup recently after missing games due to injury, smashed two grand slams, drove in 11 runs, while going 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles.
Brant's career day of 11 RBIs set a new single game record in NCAA Division II baseball this season, while also breaking the NCAA-era program record in RBIs which was set at seven by Anthony Hansen in 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brant began his record-breaking day putting the Cardinals on the board in the first with a double to left that drove in Jordan Phillips and Alex Epp for the early lead.
- Jewell entered the fourth down 6-3, when a bases loaded walk sent Jake Wilcox across the plate. Designated hitter Evan Jilbert followed up with a two-run double to pull Jewell within one run.
- Later in the inning Brant would hit his first grand slam of the day, a shot to left that gave Jewell the 9-6 lead.
- The Cardinals were not done as in the fifth Evan Jilbert hit a three-run homer, his ninth of the year. Brant notched a double later in the frame that scored Phillips.
- The seventh inning was no different for Jewell. Epp lead-off the seventh inning with a solo home run to center field.
- Four batters later Brant walked to the plate with the same bases loaded situation he faced earlier and the at-bat ended with the same result – another grand slam to left field. Brant's second slam would put Jewell up 18-7, and after the Bearcats scored only one run in the bottom of the seventh the Cardinals would leave with the 18-8 run-rule win.
