Click's Walk-Off Homer Gives Jewell Second Win Of The Day

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team won their fourth game in a row Saturday afternoon after taking both games in a doubleheader against McKendree University. Game one resulted in a 13-10 victory, while a come from behind victory in game two would end in walk-off fashion and leave the Cardinals with a 16-15 win. On the year Jewell moves to 20-15 and 11-12 in GLVC play.
 

Game 1 (Jewell 13, McKendree 10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down three in the first, lead-off hitter Alex Epp started the scoring with a solo homer, the first of eight runs Jewell would score. Later in the inning with two on, Dawson Tweet singled scoring Jordan Phillips who got on with a bases loaded walk earlier. Jewell would bat around as an RBI single from Epp would be his second hit in the inning.
  • In the fourth, an RBI double from Phillips would clear the bases and make it 10-6.
  • The next batter, Will Brant, would double and score Phillips from second.
  • Evan Jilbert would provide two more insurance runs in the fifth with a two-run double to give Jewell the 13-10 win.

KEY STATS
  • The three Cardinals at the top of the order had three-hit performances, Epp, Wilcox, and Jilbert, while combining for five RBIs and no strikeouts. 
  • Breven Yarbro would go five innings and strike out one, the redshirt junior would move to 6-1 on the year.
 
Game 2 (Jewell 16, McKendree 15)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bearcats got out to an early 5-0 lead in the first, but Jewell would answer back with a pair of RBI ground outs from Jordan Phillips and Will Brant to go into the second down 5-2.
  • McKendree tacked on six runs in the second to lead 11-3 headed into the bottom of the frame. After an RBI fielder's choice from Jake Wilcox that scored Ben Click, a three-run home run from Evan Jilbert would pull Jewell within five.
  • Jordan Phillips would hit dinger number six on the year, a two-run shot in the fourth to make it 12-8 before a Dawson Tweet double scored Brant to make it a three run game. 
  • Evan Jilbert would hit a solo home run in the fifth, followed by his second three run homer of the day in the seventh to make it 15-13 Bearcats.
  • Down two in the bottom of the seventh, Camden Dayton would notch an RBI triple to score Phillips followed up by a walk-off home run off the bat of Ben Click to give Jewell the 16-15 victory.

KEY STATS
  • Jilbert would finish 5-for-5 at the plate with three home runs and seven RBIs, while scoring four himself. He now leads the GLVC with 58 RBIs on the year, 11 more than the next closest opponent.
  • Ryan Foley would get his first win of the year in relief, striking out five.
  • Click would have four hits, a season high for the catcher, including his walk-off home run.
