LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell Baseball team went on to sweep the McKendree University Bearcats on Sunday afternoon in a 16-6 victory that lasted eight innings. It would be the first series sweep of the year for the Cardinals, as Jewell would end the weekend being 21-15, a .500 conference record, and five-game win streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cardinals would enter the third tied at one after an Alex Epp RBI single that scored Dawson Tweet.
- Jewell would take the lead in the inning, beginning with a Tweet reaching on an error and a Ben Click single to score Brant. Before the inning was over Epp would rocket a three-run home run to give Jewell a 6-3 lead.
- Two runs in the fifth, including a Jordan Phillips two-run double would extend the lead to seven for Jewell, 10-3.
- After three runs in the sixth from McKendree, the bases were loaded for Cale Blasi who smashed a grand slam to give Jewell the 14-6 lead.
- Jewell would go onto score two more and run-rule the Bearcats 16-6 for the series sweep.
