Hays, Kan. – The William Jewell Baseball dropped their non-conference road game against Fort Hays State University Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 11-8. The loss snaps a five-game win streak the Cardinals had going into the day. The loss moves Jewell to a season record of 21-16 and remain 12-12 within the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On the second pitch of the game, Alex Epp hit a lead-off solo home run to left field to give the Cardinals the early lead. In the third, Evan Jilbert would also hit a solo shot to give Jewell the 2-0 lead.
- A sac-fly in from Will Brant in the fifth, followed by a two-run homer from Dawson Tweet to left center would put the Cardinals up 5-1 headed to the bottom of the inning.
- The Tigers would plate four in the bottom of the fifth and tie it in the sixth at five runs each. The following inning Tweet would break the tie with a double to right center scoring Brant.
- Fort Hays would gain the lead in the seventh, but a Cardinal comeback attempt in the latter innings would fall short as the contest would end 11-8 in Tiger favor.
