LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell Baseball team won their match-up against Northwest Missouri State at home on Tuesday night, 9-7. The game, which originally was set to be played in Maryville was switched to Talley Stadium due to weather concerns, pushed the Cardinals to 16-11 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alex Epp lead off the bottom of the first with a home run to left centerfield that bounced off of the top of the wall to put Jewell up 1-0 early.
- After allowing a solo home run in the third, Evan Jilbert hit his eighth home run of the season, a two-run blast to deep dead center field to give the Cardinals the lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth ahead 3-2, Ben Click reached base by an error on the Bearcats to lead off the inning, scoring three batters later when Jake Wilcox grounded out to first.
- Northwest Missouri tied it up at four runs the next inning, Jewell broke the tie in the bottom of the frame courtesy of a Dawson Tweet double to right center. The Cardinals were not done as the next batter, Jonah Sanford, sent a homer to left to extend the Jewell lead to 7-4.
- Wilcox tacked on a solo shot in the sixth for good measure as Northwest Missouri would plate a pair in the seventh to make it 8-6.
- Jewell would score once in the seventh and late pitching from Cam Lawson and Jacob Sullivan would lead to Jewell taking the game 9-7.
KEY STATS
- Kyle Fitzgerald got the win, going six innings and striking out four.
- After 1.1 IP from Lawson is his second appearance on the year, Sullivan struck out a pair in the ninth to earn his first save.
- Four homers tie the most hit in a single game this season. It is the fourth time this season that Jewell has had a four-home run game.
