ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team lost their series opener on the road against the UMSL Tritons, 6-1. The loss sets the Cardinals back to 16-12 on the season and to 8-9 in GLVC action.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Down two in the second, Will Brant was hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning but would later be thrown out on a fielder's choice. Later, Jewell would advance a runner to third for the second straight inning but would not be able to get him home. 
• After one, two, three innings the previous four innings the Cardinals were able to put something together in the ninth down six.
• A lead-off single off the bat of Evan Jilbert through the right side of the infield but a man on for the Cardinals when two batters later Brant advanced Jilbert to third off of a double down the left field line. Ben Click would score Jilbert on an RBI single but the rally would not be enough as Jewell lost 6-1.

KEY STATS

• Click and Jake Wilcox each had two hits for the Cardinals, who as a team collected seven.
• Chandler Ashby got the loss, striking out three and giving up eight hits in the start..
