KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team walked away with two victories over Truman State University on Saturday afternoon in their conference doubleheader matchup. The first game left the Cardinals with a 17-9 win, while the nightcap handed the Bulldogs a two-run, 11-9 loss.
Game 1 (Jewell 17, Truman 9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell would enter the third inning down by seven runs when Evan Jilbert would hit a three-run home run to cut the Bulldog lead to four.
- Later in the inning another three-run homer, this time off of the bat of Dawson Tweet, pulled Jewell within one run.
- The next inning a two-run triple from Jake Wilcox gave Jewell the lead 8-7 before Jilbert would tack on another with a groundout that scored Wilcox.
- Truman would tie it at nine runs in the fifth, but Alex Epp would put the ball over the center field fence to put Jewell back on top, 10-9.
- A single from Jordan Phillips and a double from Ben Click would each score a run in the sixth, before a grand slam from Will Brant in the seventh proved to be enough as Jewell would capture the game one win, 17-9.

- Jacob Sullivan got the win in relief, striking out one in 2.2 IP. Sulliavn moves to 4-1 on the season.
- Brant's grand slam marks his third of the season.
- Epp, Wilcox, Jilbert, and Phillips would all score three runs, while Brant would tally-up a team high four hits.
Game 2 (Jewell 11, Truman 9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell struck first when Evan Jilbert sent a sac fly to right field scoring Jake Wilcox for the early 1-0 lead.
- Cardinals entered the fourth with a 6-2 deficit, Alex Epp singled to right scoring Jonah Sanford and Cole Conner. Before the inning ended a sac fly from Wilcox sent Cale Blasi across home to make it 6-6 Truman State.
- Down four runs in the sixth, a pair of RBI singles from Wilcox and Jilbert put Jewell within striking distance as the Cardinals' pitching kept it a two-run game going into the seventh.
- With the bases loaded and two outs, Alex Epp blasted a grand slam to right center that would prove to be enough as Jewell would win the latter game 11-9.
KEY STATS
- Ryan Hunt got the win for Jewell, going three innings, striking out one, and allowing one hit in relief.
- Epp would notch his first slam of the season, the Cardinals second of the day.
- The days' sweep would be the third doubleheader sweep of Truman since the move to the NCAA DII rank.
