Cardinals Swept By UMSL On Rainy Sunday Afternoon

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After a rain delay lasting over an hour, the William Jewell baseball team was able to take the field to play UMSL in game four of the series. The Tritons would get the 8-7 win and sweep the Cardinals. Jewell sits at 16-15, 8-12 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Teams were scoreless headed into the bottom of the third, when the Tritons were able to plate the first three runs of the afternoon to take the lead.
  • Shortstop Alex Epp was hit by the first pitch of the fifth inning, a walk and another hit batter would load the bases for Dawson Tweet who placed a two-RBI single up the middle to bring the Cardinals within a run.
  • Jewell was able to tie things up in the sixth with a lead-off homer from Ben Click to left.
  • Down 6-3 in the seventh, Jewell again would cut the Triton lead to one with RBI singles from Tweet and Jonah Sanford.
  • After UMSL went up 8-5 in the seventh, a lead-off walk put Cale Blasi on base, Epp followed with a double one batter later. Then a throwing error by the Triton's second baseman would clear the bases and put Jewell down by once again.
  • A single in the ninth from Sanford would be the only comeback Jewell would be able to mount as the final came 8-7.
