MARION, Ill. – The #6 seeded William Jewell baseball team lost their second round matchup against the #2 Maryville University Saints, 10-4 Friday evening. Jewell is still alive in the GLVC Baseball Tournament at 1-1 in the double elimination playoff.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell found the scoreboard in the first, with a pair of fielder's choices from Jordan Phillips and Will Brant to go ahead 2-0 early.
- Tied at two in the third it was again Phillips, this time with an RBI single scoring Evan Jilbert to break the tie. Later in the inning a Cole Conner RBI single would score Phillips to make it 4-2.
- The Saints would hold Jewell scoreless over the next five innings while plating six of their own to capture the 10-4 victory.
KEY STATS
- Jewell would be limited to just seven hits while Maryville would notch 16.
- Nick Fitzanko would get the loss, with Levi Eversoldt getting the start going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits.
UP NEXT
A quick turn around for the Cardinals as they will face Drury University at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Jewell beat the Panthers 3-2 in 11 innings on Thursday to open up their postseason campaign.
