KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The William Jewell Baseball team won their 2024 regular season finale, 12-5, against Rockhurst University Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals will conclude the regular season with a record of 30-20 and 20-16 in the GLVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The scoring held off until the third when Evan Jilbert doubled to left center field scoring Alex Epp.
- In the fifth a fielder's choice would score Epp to give Jewell a 2-0 lead.
- After the Hawks scored four runs in the sixth, Jewell would tie the game in the seventh from a pair of RBI singles from Jordan Phillips and Jake Wilcox.
- Jewell would score four runs in each the eighth and ninth innings to pull away from the Hawks, highlighted by a two run homer from Cale Blasi in the ninth to secure what would end up a 12-5 regular season finale victory.
KEY STATS
- Levi Ebersoldt would get the start, tossing five innings and striking out five. Kyle Fitzgerald came in relief and would pick up the win after 2.1 IP, striking out three and giving up only one hit. He will finish the season with a 5-1 win-loss record.
- Epp will finish the four-game series going 8-for-14, drawing six walks while scoring six himself.
- Blasi's two-run blast would mark his sixth homer, the eighth Cardinal with over five dingers on the year.
