KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team dropped both games against the Rockhurst Hawks on the road Friday. Game one was a 5-2 loss, while game two resulted in a 5-4 final. The pair of losses drop Jewell to 29-20 and 19-17 in the GLVC.

Game 1 (Jewell 2, Rockhurst 5)
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rockhurst would strike early, plating three in the opening inning to take the lead.
• In the fourth with Cole Conner and Dawson Tweet on base, Jonah Sanford doubled to center field to bring Jewell within one.
• Jewell would only get three runners on base over the next three innings, while the Hawks would tack on two more for the 5-2 win.

KEY STATS

• Breven Yarbro would get the start but only go two-thirds of an inning, giving up the three runs in the first. He moves to 7-2 on the year.
• Ryan Foley would come in relief, going 4.2 innings and striking out one and allowing one.
• Each team would leave with seven hits, including a pair from Jake Wilcox.

 
 
Game 2 (Jewell 4, Rockhurst 5)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Two pitches into the nightcap, Alex Epp would smash a lead-off home run to left center for a quick 1-0 Cardinal lead.
• After Rockhurst took the lead in the first, Epp's next at bat would result in an RBI triple to right center, scoring Cole Conner.
• Will Brant would tie it up at three with a sac fly in the fifth, followed by an RBI single from Dawson Tweet but Rockhurst would plate a run in each the fifth and sixth to take game two from Jewell 5-4.

KEY STATS

• Chandler Ashby go the start going five inning and striking out six, while Nick Fitzanko would allow to go-ahead run get the loss to fall to 1-1.
• Each team struck out seven times and left nine runners on base, but Jewell was out-hit by the Hawks 14 to eight.
