Banks Selected GLVC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year to Lead Cardinals at Conference Championships

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell track and field teams concluded the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinal women finished sixth overall while the men were ninth. 

For the second straight year, thrower Cydney Banks was named the GLVC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year after earning three silver medals. Her second plae mark in the hammer throw is the highest finish ever by a Cardinal at the GLVC Championships and set a new school record at 53.58 meters. Elsewhere, Lukas LePage picked up All-GLVC honors in the men's pole vault with a third place finish, the highest by a Jewell athlete since joining the league. Additionally, Konnor Poynter picked up a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles to be the third Cardinal to earn All-GLVC honors.

Both Banks and Mayes are currently ranked among the top-31 in NCAA Division II in their respective events and will await the national selections. The 2024 NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships will begin on May 23 in Emporia, Kan.
