PUEBLO, Colo. - William Jewell third-year senior Caroline Mayes closed her outstanding career on Saturday with an All-America honor to lead the Cardinals at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.
Mayes ran a 13.66 in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles to place eighth and become the first All-American sprinter for Jewell since Sara Shippy in 2010 who did so in the same event. In the preliminaries, she ran a 13.41, breaking her own school record to advance to the finals. The 2025 graduate will depart the program owning six of the top-10 all-time marks in the event and was a two-time GLVC Champion.
Elsewhere, Cydney Banks, competing in her third NCAA-II Outdoor Championships, placed 17th in the shot put with a mark of 14.12 meters. Also a recent Jewell graduate, she leaves as the best thrower all-time owning school records in the outdoor shot put, hammer throw, and discus as well as the indoor shot put and weight throw. Banks completes her career as a two-time All-American and two-time GLVC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.Â
