Cardinals Defeat Lincoln 48-20 to Start 3-0 For First Time Since 1983

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell football team extended their streak to three games with a 48-20 win over Lincoln University of Missouri on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improve to 3-0 for the first time since 1983 and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lincoln scored on their opening drive with a 36 yard field goal to take the early lead but the Cardinals came right back as Tucker Griffin connected with AJ Austene for a 24-yard touchdown.
  • To start the second quarter, Layne Cavanah hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Griffin to give Jewell a 14-3 advantage.
  • A muffed kick off was recovered by the Cardinals who got a 31 yard touchdown run from Keaundre McCullough on the ensuing play.
  • The defense came up big to start the second quarter as Keagan Hart forced a fumble and took it back to the one yard line. McCullough cashed it in two plays later. A Josh Click field goal made it a 28-3 lead at the break.
  • Jewell started the second half much like their left off as Griffin found Jalen Bethany for a 22-yard score.
  • Midway through the third frame, Terran Mitchell blocked a punt from the Blue Tigers which was recovered by Sean Mitchell who ran it 17 yards for the touchdown to make it 45-3.
  • Click connected on a 41-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter and give the Cardinals their biggest lead of the day at 48-3.
  • Lincoln scored the final 17 points of the game but it was too little too late for the Blue Tigers.
