ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team got off to a strong start on Saturday but couldn't maintain in the second half as Maryville ran away with an 81-52 win. The Cardinals drop to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell hit four early triples by four different players to open up a 14-5 lead midway through the first period. The Saints closed the quarter on a 15-2 run to take the lead, 19-16.
- Back-to-back threes, both from Paris Opelt, put the Cardinals on top but Maryville finished the half, outscoring Jewell 12-6 to hold a 33-30 advantage at the break.
- Midway through the third quarter, Maryville started a run that saw them score 15 points over the final six minutes while holding the Cardinals scoreless to expand their lead to 57-42.
- The Cardinal offense shot just 18% in the fourth quarter as Maryville expanded their advantage to as many as 29.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hillyer scored a team high 10 points while Opelt had nine to go with a team best six rebounds.
- The Cardinals shot 28% for the game but were 11-of-30 from three point land for 37% and scored 18 points off turnovers.
