Cardinals Fall to Lewis on Last Second Three

LIBERTY, Mo. - A three pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining lifted Lewis University past the William Jewell men's basketball team, 67-66 on Thursday night. The Cardinals fall to 5-10 on the season and 2-5 in league play while the Flyers, who are receiving votes in the lates national poll improve to 11-3 and 6-1 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lewis got off to a hot start, jumping out to a quick eight point lead but a bucket from Jason Thirdkill, Jr. and a Luke Jordan triple brought things back within two with under six minutes to play in the half. The Flyers maintained the advantage until Jordan Jermain hit two free throws with under a minute to go. Bradley Lightbourne added two more to go with a layup to put the Cardinals on top 37-33 headed into the halftime break. 
  • The visitors came out of the locker room and retook the lead, as a three from Devon Vanderheydt made it a nine point Flyer advantage with 13 minutes to play. Jermain led the charge of a 17-2 run to put the Cardinals back in front by six with just 3:45 to go. Jewell held on to the lead through the waning minutes until Rob Stroud hit his first three pointer since December 21 to give Lewis the one point win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Thirdkill, Jr. led the Cardinals with 21 points while Jermain added 18. 
  • The Jewell bench outscored their counterpart 17-7, led by Lightbourne's 13. 
  • Luke Jordan grabbed a team high seven rebounds while Lightbourne had four assists. 
  • The Cardinals shot 48% from the field but were just 14-of-25 from the free throw line while forcing 15 turnovers which led by 17 points.
