LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team got off to a strong start but couldn't keep pace on Friday night, falling to Drury 88-55. The Cardinals drop to 3-7 on the season and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals grabbed an early 9-4 lead after a turnaround jumper from Ella Bockenstedt but Drury followed with a 14-0 run to take the lead. Kate Hillyer hit four free throws to close the first period and pull Jewell within one, 20-19. 
• The offense went cold in the second quarter, going just 2-for-14 from the field and 0-for-8 from three as Drury built their lead to 40-25 at the half. 
• Kirsten Hauck opened the second half with a three to cut the deficit to 12 but the Panthers went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to expand their lead to 22.
• Hillyer scored six points to lead a quick 7-0 Cardinal run but Drury followed with a spurt of their own to expand their advantage to as many as 35 late. Gabby Rose hit a three in the final moments for the Cardinals to bring the score to the final, 88-55.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Hillyer led the Cardinals with 18 points, including 12-of-13 from the free throw line, while Pari Opelt grabbed a team high six rebounds. 
• Bree Shannon finished with three assists, three steals, and two blocks.
• The Cardinals shot just 26.9% from the floor but were 21-of-25 from free throw line.
