Cardinals Top Roosevelt to Open Midwest Region Crossover

HAMMOND, Ind. - The William Jewell volleyball team put together a 3-1 win over Roosevelt University on Friday afternoon to open up the Midwest Region Crossover. The victory, gives the GLVC a tally in the win column in the conference competition, while also moving Jewell to 2-15 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jewell broke out to an early lead but the Lakers rallied to go knot things up at 13-all midway through the opener. With Jewell leading by one, a ball handling error sparked 7-3 run, capped by a Reaghan Bible ace to give the Cardinals the 25-19 win.
  • Two mid-set runs of 6-0 and 6-2 put Jewell firmly in front in the second frame. Roosevelt pulled within five late but Emma Lea Benney's kill and a block from Bible and Emily Brannan finished off the set, 25-18, in favor of the Cardinals.
  • The Jewell offense sputtered in the third set, amassing just nine kills on a .056 attack percentage as Roosevelt broke away for a 25-14 win and set up set four.
  • After the Lakers took a quick 7-4 lead, the Cardinals went on a run of 11-3, led by two kills each from Benney and Macy Bartlett to go in front 22-15. Roosevelt used a quick 6-2 run of their own to pull within three but another Bible and Brannan block ended the rally and gave Jewell the victory.
