Upper Iowa Defeats Cardinals to Snap Win Streak

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Friday night as Upper Iowa avenged an earlier season loss to the Cardinals. Jewell drops to 4-16 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals got off to a strong start, leading 8-6 after Wylie Singleton and Reaghan Bible got the first of their four blocks together on the night. Trailing by three, Jewell got a kill from Emma Lea Benney and a Peacock error pulled the Cards within one, but Upper Iowa won five of the final six points to take the opener.
  • UIU opened the second set fast, taking a commanding 17-9 lead midway through but Jewell got two kills from Caroline Beckmann and were the recipients of three Peacock errors to pull back within three. Upper Iowa picked up four kills and ace late to win 25-19 and take a two set lead.
  • Both teams traded runs in the third frame as the Cardinals built a 14-10 lead behind another Singleton and Bible block. UIU took a 23-22 lead but a service error and back-to-back attack errors gave Jewell life, forcing a fourth set.
  • The Peacocks took a double-digit lead midway through the finale, but the Cardinals made things interesting late with a 5-1 run but a kill finished off the match, 25-18.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Peacocks hit .178 on the night, while holding Jewell to just .082, led by Benney and Beckmann with nine kills each.
  • As a team, the Cardinals put up a season high 10 blocks, led by Singleton's seven while Madison Roney had 18 digs to pace the defense.
  • Benney finished with a team high three aces while Ashlynn Rowland added a pair.
