LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team improved each set but came up short on Saturday, falling 3-0 to Truman State University to move to 4-17 on the season and 0-7 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a kill from Wylie Singleton midway through the opener, Truman State went on 10-2 run to take the first frame 25-11. 
• In set two, Jewell grabbed an early lead and held on for the majority as Emily Brannan's kill made it 19-17, in favor of the Cardinals. After the Bulldogs tied it up at 20-all, back-to-back TSU errors gave Jewell a two point advantage but two blocks and two kills put Truman back in front for good. 
• After the Bulldogs pulled ahead 6-1, Jewell rallied to get back within two after a kill from Olivia Starr. From there Truman opened up a 10-point lead as Jewell staved off five match points with a kill and a block from Caroline Beckmann but an error allowed Truman to escape, 25-19.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals held Truman to an attack percentage of .196 but hit just .065 as a team. Emma Lea Benney's nine kills led the offense as Starr handed out 26 assists.
• Brannan finished with a team high four blocks while Beckmann had 16 digs with Macy Bartlett adding a dozen and Madison Roney, 10.
