Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Fort Hays Run Sinks Cardinals

HAYS, Kan. - After being tied at the half, Fort Hays outscored the William Jewell men's basketball team 49-30 in the second half to win 78-59. The Cardinals fall to 3-6 overall while FHSU improves to 6-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trailing by four, Kyle Scharbrough was a catalyst, scoring 10 early points, as a free throw put the Cardinals on top by one with just over five minutes to go in the opening half. The Tigers went in back in front briefly but the redshirt junior Scharbrough added six more points, including a tip in at the buzzer to make it 29-all at the break.
  • Fort Hays came out of the locker room on a tear, going on a 9-0 run until Will Beck's dunk stopped the drought for the Cardinals, more than three minutes into the second half. Jewell got back within two moments later on another bucket from Beck, but the Tigers followed with 24-5 run over the next eight minutes to expand their lead to a game-high 21. Justice Sutton scored eight points in the final minutes but the Cardinals could no closer than 15.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Sutton added a dozen to give Jewell two in double-figures with Kanukayi Gudza handed out four assists.
  • Jewell shot 37.5% from the floor while the Tigers connected on 57.4%, including better than 72% in the second half.
  • The Cardinals out scored Fort Hays in the paint, 32-24.
