LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team dropped their series-finale against the Upper Iowa Peacocks Monday afternoon, 5-7. The Cardinals made a late push to cut the Peacocks' leads to one run in the 7
th but proved to not be enough after a six-run 2
nd inning from the visitors. The loss puts Jewell at 2-3 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Upper Iowa got on the board early, adding six runs through the first two innings to earn the early 6-0 lead.
- On the first pitch of the second inning Justin George hit his first homer of the season, a deep shot to center field to plate the first Cardinal run of the day.
- Later in the inning after a pair of Peacock errors Cale Blasi notched a base hit to right field that cleared the bases to cut the lead to three runs.
- After leading off the third with a single, Will McCombs stole second and later was hit home with an RBI double from George to give Upper Iowa a 6-4 lead headed into the fourth.
- Blasi's 7th inning lead-off home run would not be enough to spark the comeback as Upper Iowa ultimately took the 7-5 series-clinching win.
