LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a tough game Thursday night in Liberty, 78-66. The Cardinals fall to 5-14 on the season and 3-10 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bearcats got off to a hot start early, but Jewell battled back thanks to a pair of three pointers by Karlee Holland and another bucket by Ella Bockenstedt leaving Bearcats in front 20-16 to end the period.
- With Jewell trailing by five after another Holland three, the Bearcats went on a 18-5 run, shooting 9-of-18 from the field, to expand their lead to 42-33 going into the break.
- After intermission SBU continued their first half momentum by opening the quarter with another three point shot. The Cardinal offense struggled to keep pace going just 4-of-11 from the field.
- Jewell showed some fight to begin the final period bringing the score to within eight with 7:51 to play, but the Bearcats offense proved to be too much bring the score to the final of 78-66.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Holland led the Cardinals with a season high 27 points going 6-of-10 from the three-point line along with notching five steals.
- Paris Opelt also finished with three triples, three rebounds, and a steal.
- The Cardinals shot just 36% from the floor but were 17-of-22 from the free throw line.
