Box Score 4 BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The William Jewell softball team opened the 2025 season over the weekend at the Alvy Early Classic, hosted by Arkansas Monticello, falling in four contests.
EMPORIA STATE 5, JEWELL 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amanda Chung got the Cardinals off to a strong start in their second game of the day with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
- The Hornets came back with a two run single in the bottom half to take the lead and added another in the fifth.
- Emporia State got a bases loaded walk and an RBI fielder's choice to expand their lead to the final of 5-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinal offense was limited to just three hits from Chung, Alexa Almejo, and Lexi Lopez.
- Avrey Reynolds (0-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs on nine hits over six frames.
CENTRAL MISSOURI 9, JEWELL 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Central Missouri took an early 3-0 lead after three frames before Jewell got on the board after an error by the UCM pitcher allowed Almejo to cross the plate.
- The Jennies added two more before Chung got her second home run of the weekend in the sixth.
- UCM picked up three more runs over the final two innings to expand their lead to six.

NORTHEASTERN STATE 15, JEWELL 5 (5 INN.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern took an early lead but Almejo put the Cardinals on top with a three run home run to center.
- The Riverhawks scored 13 runs over the next two innings to take a commanding 15-4 lead.
- Chairez doubled in the fourth to score Mckenna Cerny but Jewell could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals finished with eight hits, led by two each from Chairez, Chung, Almejo, and Cerny with the latter scoring twice.
- Olivia Wood (0-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing nine runs.
