CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - Now in their second season, the William Jewell women's lacrosse program is already making progress having won their first back-to-back games with an 8-7 win at Thomas More University on Sunday. The Cardinals improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell took the early lead with three goals in the first period, including two from Elysa Atkinson and Toryn Podschwit in the span of just 45 seconds, but TMU responded to pull within one by the end of the opener.
• Olivia Fornelli, Kaylee Gross, and Ella Childress scored in the second quarter to double up the Saints, 6-3, at the break. 
• Fornelli added another just over a minute into the third frame to make it a four goal Cardinal lead, but Thomas More finished the quarter on a 3-0 run to pull within one with 15 minutes to go. 
• Gross scored to give Jewell a two goal cushion midway through the fourth as the Saints converted a woman-up score to make it 8-7 with five minutes to play. The Jewell defense clamped down and did not allow a shot by TMU over the final 5:28 of action. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Gross, Childress, and Fornelli each scored two goals on six shots. 
• Fornelli finished with a team high six draw controls while Haydin Gibson grabbed six saves and the win in goal. 
• The Cardinals out shot TMU 27-18 and forced 28 turnovers.
