Cardinals Plate Eight Runs In Fourth Inning, Take Down Northwest Missouri 8-6

LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell scored all of their eight runs in the 4th inning to take down the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 8-6 on Tuesday night. The non-conference win puts the Cardinals at 7-9 with an 0-4 GLVC record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell had one double in each of the first three innings, Jordan Phillips with one in the 1st and 3rd, and Jonah Sanford collecting a two-bagger in the second but the Cardinals would fail to get any runner home. 
  • Down 3-0 into the bottom of the 4th with the bases loaded, Sanford was walked to score Justin George for the first Cardinal run of the game. The Ilyas van den Bos collected an RBI single one batter later.
  • With the bases still loaded, the Bearcats issues two more walks that gave Jewell the 4-3 lead. Still with only one out and bases loaded George singled to score Cale Blasi, followed by another walk and a fielder's choice to increase the lead to 8-3 by the end of the inning.
  • Northwest attempted a comeback in the later innings but the Cardinals held on for the 8-6 victory.

KEY STATS
  • Jacob Sullivan started on the mound for the Cardinals going four innings and allowing four runs while Kyle Fitzgerald got his first win on the year pitching two innings while giving up only one earned run.
  • Nick Fitzanko closed the final inning out being credited with his third save this season.
  • Phillips earned his first three-hit game of the year including two doubles, while every other Cardinal batter had one run to their name all in the 8th inning.

UP NEXT
Jewell will travel to Bolivar, Missouri this weekend to face another Bearcats squad, this time of Southwest Baptist in a four-game series beginning Friday at 5:00 PM.
