LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team was swept by Saginaw Valley State Cardinals Sunday afternoon. Jewell is 13-15 on the season with a 5-7 GLVC record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals struck first when in the second inning Ben Click singled scoring Justin George to give Jewell a 1-0 lead. One batter later an error by the Saginaw second baseman scored Cam Dayton for a two-run Jewell lead.
• After a scoreless fourth, Luke Bies scored one run in the fifth to extend the lead to three.
• The Saginaw offense came alive in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to combine for 16 runs.
• In his first at-bat of the season, and only second as a William Jewell Cardinal, Luke Linder hit a solo homer to give the final 16-4 score.

KEY STATS

• Jake Sawyer (2-2) got the start, giving up three runs off seven hits while striking out three batters.
• Jewell collected only four hits, tied for the second fewest this season.
