Cardinals Capture Win In 8-7 Dogfight

LIBERTY, Mo. – In come from behind fashion, William Jewell baseball took game one of their series against Missouri S&T, 8-7. The Cardinals used five runs in the middle innings to get enough of a lead to outlast a late Miner rally. Jewell is 14-15 / 6-7 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down 1-0 in the first, a pair of RBI singles from Justin George and Ben Click through each side of the infield gave Jewell a 2-1 lead.
  • The Miners, up 2-0, tossed a trio of runs on the board in the fourth to give the visitors a three-run lead. In the bottom of the frame a two-run shot from Will McCombs brought Jewell within one.
  • The next inning a fielder's choice off the bat of Justin George scored Evan Jilbert from third when he beat out the play at the plate. George made his way around when Jonah Sanford scored the first baseman when he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
  • S&T scored two runs in the last two innings but the Cardinals would prevail, 8-7.

KEY STATS

  • Click went 3-for-3 with a walk, while Jordan Phillips was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Kyle Fitzgerald was the only member out of the bullpen for Jewell, collecting his first save of the year.
