LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday with a 17-13 win over McKendree University in a non-conference match up. The Cardinals improve to 5-4 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• McKendree started fast with four straight goals to open play until Elysa Atkinson and Ella Childress got Jewell on the board. 
• Childress and Fia Lamanno each scored player-up goals to pull the Cardinals within one midway through the second period. Jewell closed the half on a 4-1 run, led by three scores from Kaylee Gross, to hold an 8-7 lead at the break. 
• The Cardinals continued their momentum into the second half, pushing their lead to 11-7 after an Olivia Fornelli score. McKendree followed with 4-1 run of their own to trail by just one in the fourth quarter. 
• In the final period, Jewell outscored the Bearcats 5-3 to pick up the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jewell out shot McKendree 37-26 led by 10 from Gross, who finished with a team high five goals. 
• Fornelli added three scores while Childress, Elle Eastwood, and Toryn Podschwit each had two. 
• The Cardinals forced 28 turnovers and picked up 25 ground balls, led by Fornelli and Zoey Keefer with four. 
• Claire Eastwood earned the win in cage with nine saves.
