SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – In their doubleheader versus Drury University on Saturday, William Jewell dropped both games to the Panthers. After falling 1-0 in a pitchers dual in game one, Jewell came within one run in the final inning of game two for the close 6-5 loss. The Cardinals are now 6-8 and 0-3 in GLVC action.
Game 1 (Jewell 0, Drury 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a three-up three-down 1st inning for Jewell, the Cardinals had their first baserunner in the 2nd when Will McCombs was walked with one out but after stealing second was stranded after a pair of outs.
- Drury got on the board with a double in the 4th to score the game's only run.
- After being held hitless going into the 5th inning a pair of singles from McCombs and Jonah Sanford gave Jewell their only hits of the game while Drury would hold on for a one-run victory.
KEY STATS
- Charlie Rambo (2-2) got the los his second complete game of the year, striking out three.
- Jewell batters were struck-out nine times, while both teams saw their starting pitcher go the distance.
Game 2 (Jewell 5, Drury 6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals gained a quick lead with a two-RBI single form Ben Click in the top of the 1st.
- After allowing four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, Cale Blasi scored from third on a Panthers' passed ball to cut the lead to two runs in the 2nd.
- Click notched his second single on the 5th, this time scoring Justin George to deadlock the game at 4-4.
- Drury scored two runs headed into the 7th inning with a 6-4 tilt. With two outs Santiago Jimenez would hit-in Jonah Sanford to pull Jewell within a run but the Cardinals could not produce any more offense ending game 2 with a 6-5 loss.
KEY STATS
- Chandler Ashby got the start on the mound, striking out one while allowing five runs off three hits through 4.1 innings pitched.
- George had this third three-hit game of the season, while Click had two knocks that plated three total runs.
