LEBANON, Ill. – In their doubleheader versus McKendree University on Thursday, William Jewell dropped both games to the Bearcats, 14-4 and 10-3. The Cardinals struck first in game one before falling to McKendree and their red-hot bats.
Game 1 (Jewell 4, McKendree 14)
HOW IT HAPPENED
· Cardinals scored two first inning runs before Mckendree came back with four of their own in the bottom of the second. Runs in the first were scored by
Will McCombs on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Philips and
Evan Jilbert on a sacrifice bunt by
Ben Click.
· In the third inning a two-run blast off of the bat of
Cale Blasi tied the game 4-4.
·McKendree scored 10 runs between the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to take a 14-4 advantage into the final inning.
KEY STATS
·
Charlie Rambo (5-4) got the game one nod, going 4.2 innings allowing eight runs with three strikeouts receiving the loss. Relief pitcher
Kyle Fitzgerald came in and punched out three Bearcat batters as well.
· Jewell tallied only five hits, with a two-run homerun from centerfielder
Cale Blasi.
Game 2 (Jewell 3, McKendree 10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
· McKendree started the action in game two scoring a combined five runs in the first and second inning.
· The Cardinals answered back in the third with a double by
Evan Jilbert which scored
Luke Bies pushing the score to 5-1.
· The Bearcats were able to stay hot in the fourth scoring five runs.
· The Cardinals tried to fight back scoring runs in the sixths and seventh with a sacrifice fly by
Evan Jilbert scoring Will Mcombs and an error by the Bearcats second baseman that allowed a score by
Cale Blasi. But the Cardinals ultimately fell 10-3.
KEY STATS

Chandler Ashby (2-4) got the start striking out six Bearcat batters in his 3.1 innings of work. Finishing off the day for the Cardinals on the mound was
Jack Wells striking out two.
· Jilbert led the team with two RBIs in the contest against the Bearcats.
