Cardinals Unable To Notch Road Win Versus McKendree

LEBANON, ILL. – William Jewell lost the last two games of their four game series versus McKendree on Friday, 7-4 and 10-3. The Cardinals are 19-22 after being swept, with an 11-13 conference record.
 
 
Game 1 (Jewell 4, McKendree 7)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell got the lead in the second inning when two solo homers from Justin George and Cale Blasi made it 2-0.
  • McKendree plated six runs between the third and fourth innings for a 6-2 lead headed into the fifth.
  • Santiago Jimenez blasted a home run to left with Camden Dayton on base to pull the Cardinals within two but the Bearcats stayed ahead for the 7-4 win.

KEY STATS
  • Jake Sawyer was assigned the loss in three innings of work, allowing five earned runs and three punchouts.
  • Each pitching staff only gave up one walk while Jewell posted twice as many strikeouts than the Bearcats with eight.
 
Game 2 (Jewell 3, McKendree 10)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After gaining a 1-0 lead in the first, McKendree answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
  • Down 6-1 Ben Click singled to left center that plated Evan Jilbert in the third.
  • Cardinals scored one run in the sixth off the bat of Will McCombs with an RBI double but McKendree piled on more runs in the last three innings for a 10-3 win.
  • Jewell, 9-8.

KEY STATS
  • Jacob Sullivan received the loss going 5.2 innings, striking out three and giving up six hits.
  • Jewell left 11 runner on base compared to just six from McKendree.

UP NEXT
Cardinals will be at home Tuesday evening with a non-conference game against Maryville.
