LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's lacrosse team took a late lead on Thursday evening but fell 12-11 to Lewis University to drop to 6-8 on the season and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams scored twice in the first quarter but the Flyers added four quick goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead. 
• Fia Lamanno ended the run with a score, followed by two from Elle Eastwood to pull Jewell back within one. 
• Trailing by two in the third quarter, the Cardinals rattled off four goals, including two from Lamanno to take their first lead, 10-9 but Lewis responded just under two minutes later to knot things up. 
• The Flyers took a two-goal lead in the fourth period on a man-up free position but Olivia Fornelli returned the favor with her 40th score of the year to get the Cardinals back within one. Jewell had one final opportunity with 21 seconds to go but a turnover gave the ball back to the Flyers to close out the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jewell out shot the Flyers 33-27 and won 15 draw controls but were just 20-of-27 on clear attempts. 
• Eastwood, Lamanno, and Kaylee Gross each scored three times with the latter adding two assists. 
• Claire Eastwood finished with nine saves and a team high six ground balls while Kennedy Madison caused four turnovers.
